What to Look for in a WiFi Nanny Camera
A WiFi nanny camera connects to your home network and streams live video to your phone, letting you monitor a room from anywhere without installing dedicated security equipment. When choosing one, the key factors are resolution, field of view, form factor, and power source.
Resolution determines how much detail you can see in a recorded clip. All three RecorderGear monitoring cameras record at 1080p Full HD, which is sufficient to identify faces, read labels, and review activity clearly. Field of view determines how much of a room a single camera covers. A 90-degree wide-angle lens captures most of a standard room from a single shelf or outlet position.
Form factor is what separates a good hidden camera from obvious security equipment. The RG50 is built into a USB wall charger, the RG80 into a five-port charging station, and the RG200 into a digital bedside clock. Each one sits in its natural location while streaming live video to the tCam app on iOS or Android. Wall power means all three run indefinitely without battery changes or interruptions.
Monitoring Your Home from Your Phone
All three cameras connect to the tCam app for iOS and Android, giving you live video access from anywhere with a cell signal or WiFi connection. Open the app to see the camera's live feed, adjust settings, or download saved clips directly to your phone. Setup takes minutes and requires no technical experience.
Motion detection sends an instant alert to your phone when activity is detected in the camera's field of view. You can set each camera to record only when motion occurs, saving storage and making relevant footage easier to find, or switch to continuous recording for complete coverage. Scheduled recording lets you define specific time windows for monitoring, so the camera operates when you need it.
Loop recording on a microSD card ensures the camera never stops due to full storage. When the card fills, the oldest footage is overwritten automatically so the most recent clips are always available. Time and date stamps keep every recording organized for easy reference.
Choosing the Right Camera for Your Space
Each camera is designed for a different room and use case. The RG50 is the most compact option, well suited for a home office, entryway, or smaller room where a USB charger fits naturally into an outlet. It continues to charge phones and tablets while monitoring the room, serving a dual purpose in any space.
The RG80 fits naturally in shared spaces where multiple devices charge at once: a kitchen counter, living room shelf, or home office desk. Five USB ports keep phones and tablets charged while the 90-degree wide-angle lens covers the full room. It is the best fit for large common areas where broad coverage matters most.
The RG200 is the most capable nanny camera option for rooms that need overnight coverage. As a hidden camera with infrared night vision, it provides clear footage up to 20 feet in complete darkness with no visible indicator light. A six-hour battery backup keeps it running during a power outage. Styled as a digital clock, it displays the correct time while monitoring around the clock.
